On Jan 10 2019, ProfessorZongwu Cai, Associate DeanProfessorYuejun Zhang and Lecturer Si Xu opened the Expert Session with their research findings. Accounting Department Head Fangfei Ding presided over the first session. HNUBS faculty and enrolled students attended the event.

Graduate of School of Economics & Management, South China Normal University, Lecturer Si Xu presented “Three Steps in Project Application”. She provided experience-based guidance for the HNUBS community at large. The keys to obtaining a foundation are: pioneer the area research, entire different thought & statements, strict structure & logics, literature reading & review and keywords and researching methods.

Management Science & Engineering Department Head Hongbo He presided over the second session.Associate Dean Yuejun Zhang presented “Pricing and Forecast of International Petroleum Assets”.

Associate Dean Yuejun Zhang tackled the background of the international petroleum market and introduced pricing mechanism, progress and innovative thoughts on pricing and forecast. His demonstrations were with graphics, modeling and explanations that can help make complex theories understandable.

Professor Zhang’s insight into the success in thesis writing is “reading 200 top paper”, which will encourage students to explore the academia with patience and dedication.

Associate Professor Feng Wang of Marketing hosted the next session. Professor Xianzhi Dai, The Chinese University of Hong Kong, invited audience participation with his presentation “Resource Scarcity and Human Behavior: Some Theoretical Construction and Experimental Results.”

Professor Xianzhi Dai grabbed the audience attention with funny pictures and examples. Then, he shared his research findings on the topic. His detailed explanation encouraged further thinking and solution of this issue. Next, following precedent research will not benefit being an innovative and inspirational researcher. “Prepare yourself in advance and have the confidence to possible approach.” Professor Xianzhi Dai.

Then Professor Yuejun Zhang guided the event to the last session. “Charles Oswald” ProfessorZongwu Cai,Department of Economics, University of Kansas, presented his “Testing Unconfoundedness Using Auxiliary Variables”. It highlighted macro-economic policies and introduced two econometric methods, which are classic and innovative.

In this presentation, Professor Cai shares independent methods with conditions and demonstration of that in the U.S. and China. Students sat in stunned silence, listening to his presentation carefully.

First, he gave the history of relevant econometric theories and methods. Adding a variable “Z”, using theconditional method for nonparametric estimation for testing independence, Professor Cai was able to point out the application of 401K with this method.

The discussion session covered Professor Cai’s understanding in less researching methods for application thesis while different objects for econometrics and application theses. He called students for further thinking on critics of macro-economic policies in time sequence in China.

Four scholars’ speeches were informative, memorable and motivational. Faculty members and students have commented how they were fascinated by their stories and advice. They have learned something that couldn’t have so much impact on their study. They will definitely be looking forward to the event next year.
