The Information Management and Information System (IMIS) program is designed to cultivate innovative IMIS professionals who can excel both domestically and on the global stage, with a focus on big data, artificial intelligence, and digital society, and other national strategies and industrial development trends. This is in response to the new challenges and demands for the development of IMIS education posed by new-generation information technological revolution, digital society construction, and information-based, digital, and smart country and city construction. Hunan University is one of the earliest universities in China to set up the IMIS program. It began to enroll MIS undergraduates in 1985. So far, it has nurtured such undergraduates for more than 30 years. In 2022, the IMIS program of Hunan University was honored as a national first-class undergraduate major construction site. IMIS has become a well-known major in China, offering education at undergraduate, master and doctoral levels, and it is entitled to grant scientific degrees.
