Project Management and Business Intelligence Innovation Research Center

The  Center was founded based on plentiful Business School teacher resources and numerous national major projects included in the 10th, 11th, 12th, 13th “Five-Year Plan”, National “863” Project, National Key Weapon Development, and National Natural Science Foundation of China.

The Project Management and Business Intelligence Innovation Research Center is the result of the combination of many resources including Business School teachers and major national projects included in the 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th “Five-Year Plan”, the National “863” Project, the National Key Weapon Development, and the National Natural Science Foundation of China.

It focuses on project management theory and practice and “Internet Plus” big data innovation and education. It is the R & D institute for national, provincial, and enterprise collaborative innovation integrating production, education and research with universities and institutes.
It participates in national key engineering projects management research and practice. It combines a well-organized structure with rigorous knowledge framework in both theoretical research and practical experience.

Orientation: integrating project management theory and practice to promote collaborative innovation involving production, education, and research between universities and institutes

Objectives: to research modern project management and business intelligence theory, and management methods and tools, and apply them to management practices. Explore using modern project management and business intelligence to study and interpret major national social issues including China's economically sustainable development, public resource allocation, the low-carbon economy, regional collaborative innovation, and public-private partnership models.

1.Ubiquitous Computing Theory and Method for Project Management

This research mainly studies on ubiquitous computing framework, big data model, computing model and application components for project management by means of machine learning, pattern recognition and artificial intelligence, such as WBS decomposition, scope management, time management, cost management, quality management, HR management, risk management, procurement management, project monitoring and evaluation.

2. Theory and Method of Knowledge Management for Large Scale Project
This research mainly studies on computing framework, calculation model and application algorithm for large scale project management based on big data by means of deep learning and pattern recognition, such as knowledge discovery, knowledge of large project acquisition, knowledge transfer, knowledge innovation and knowledge sharing.

3. Big Data Computing and Evaluation for Project Performance
This research mainly studies on big data model, computing framework, computing model and application algorithm for project performance based on big data by means of deep learning and pattern recognition.

4. Theory and Method for Industrial Big Data of Intelligent Manufacturing
This research mainly studies on industrial big data model, computing framework, computing architecture, computing model, context computing, cloud computing for intelligent manufacturing.

5. Internet Computing and Deep Machine Learning
This research mainly studies on all kinds of internet computation theory and method based on web spider model by means of deep learning and pattern recognition. such as big data ETL, data storage, data modeling, data computing, data visualization and application.

6. Pattern Recognition and Risk Computation for Innovation
This research mainly studies on big data model, computing framework, computing model and application for innovation by means of deep learning and pattern recognition.

7.Internet of Things and Regional Sustainable Development
This research mainly studies on intelligence framework and development strategy of IOT, such as intelligent factories, intelligent communities, intelligent logistics, intelligent transportation, intelligent business, intelligent home and life. At the same time, and studies on effects of IOT for regional sustainable development.


8. Collaborative and Innovative Project Management and Innovation

Using ‘big data, it studies the characteristics of different project stages, and dynamic game process, cooperation and conflict, input and output measures of the distribution among enterprises, universities, research institutes, financial institutions, and governmental organs.

It also analyzes project successes and failures; how innovation entities collaborate ; project management; project performance evaluation; and the effects of relevant government policies in promoting production and research.

To solve the problems of how to innovate from strategic cooperation to tactical coordination, coordinate resources with technical cooperation, management coordination to organization coordination, capital cooperation to industry coordination, and coordinating visions to real coordination, in order to promote regional innovation development.

9. Business decision modeling and optimization
We aim to provide more intelligent decision-making for management problems in functions such as production, transportation, warehousing, and marketing, through formulating quantitative models that account for firms’ actual operational environments, and by applying theories and methods of management science and operations research.

Objective of this research direction:
Quantitative models, intelligent algorithms, and decision support tools for business management problems.

10.Interdisciplinary project management and knowledge management innovation research
Due to the complexity of project deliverables and the diversity of stakeholder interests, complex interdisciplinary and cooperation features emerged from project management; project managers are also encounter with complex multi-field and interdisciplinary knowledge environment. Communication management, collaborative management, knowledge management and integration management will be the essential skills of project managers. Project managers have to refer to the modern innovation management theory and technology, to manage or control the project with micro power successfully especially in the norm of Internet plus new economic.

Research objectives:
Build essential models in interdisciplinary project management and knowledge management including: procedure model, measurement index system, influence model, planning model, control model and knowledge propagation model.

Since 2012, the Center has undertaken a number of vertical sci-tech projects at the national, provincial, and ministerial level. These include: the “Multi-level and Multi-stage Dynamic Equilibrium and Supporting Policy Study of Collaborative Innovation” project of National Natural Science Foundation of China; the “Multi-project Management Methods and Applied Studies” project of National Social Science Foundation of China; the “Public Projects Performance Evaluation Research Based on Low-carbon Economy” project of the Ministry of Education Planning Fund; the “Public Projects Performance Evaluation Index System and Methods Study under Low-carbon Economy Concept” project of Hunan Province philosophy and social science achievement appraisal committee, and the “Public Projects Performance Evaluation of a Low-carbon Economy” project of Hunan Provincial Finance Department.

It has also participated in a number of local government and enterprise projects, including the “Research on Liuyang City Investment Project Management Process Optimization and Recycling”, the “Liuyang City Project Management Information System Optimization Research”, the “** County Urban and Rural Water Supply Project PPP Demonstration”, the “** City Intelligent Traffic Monitoring System PPP Project Research”, and the “*** Urban Road Infrastructure Construction Project PPP Model Design”.
